Chronology of cameras Petri

The Petri Auto Rapid 28 is the almost identical twin of the Petri Racer. The main difference is the film used.

While the Racer uses standard 135 film the Auto Rapid was designed for Agfa Rapid cassettes. So the only differences are those required by the Rapid system which are mainly the automatic film speed detection and some changes to the film transport mechanism as no take-up spools or rewinding mechanism is required. This also made it necessary that the film is transported from right to left as the film speed detection is on the right hand side of the film chamber.

Other than the Auto name might suggest the camera is, like the Racer, fully manual (focus, aperture, shutter speed)  with CdS metering. The term "Auto" in the name was probably  chosen to underline the automatic film speed setting provided through the Rapid Cassettes.

The camera used 625 Mercury batteries which are not available anymore but one can use the usual replacements.
